We accept only work that has not been previously published in print.  In order for a piece to be read and considered for publication and cash prizes, you (the writer(s) and sole authorized person(s) to grant rights reguarding piece in question) must pay five dollars as a submission fee per fiction submission. Poetry submissions are free!  There is no limit on the number of pieces you may submit.  If your piece is chosen for publication, you will be notified in writing through e-mail.  At which time you must grant the following license for publication in The Creative Writer.  The agreement you will make with us before publication is nonexclusive and you will maintain copyright of your work.  By submitting you agree that if your piece is chosen for publication, you agree to our Nonexclusive Publication Agreement below.

Nonexclusive Publication Agreement:
Agreement: We look forward to publishing your piece in a forthcoming issue of The Creative Writer. For the protection of your work and of J. D. Vine Publications, we need from every author whose work is to appear in The Creative Writer certain nonexclusive licenses. These licenses are a prerequisite for publication in The Creative Writer.   However, this instrument is not a copyright assignment.
Rights Reserved by Author: You retain copyright of your piece, subject only to the specific rights given to J.D. Vine Publications for The Creative Writer. By retaining your copyright, you are reserving for yourself among other things unlimited rights of electronic distribution, and the right to license the work to other publishers, once the article has been published in The Creative Writer by J. D. Vine Publications. After first publication, your only obligation is to ensure that appropriate first publication credit is given to The Creative Writer and J. D. Vine Publications.
Licenses to J. D. Vine: You hereby give to J. D. Vine the right to be the first publisher of your piece in print form.  After first publication in print, J. D. Vine Publications will have an ongoing but non-exclusive license to publish and republish the piece in print form in The Creative Writer, and to publish the piece in print anthologies derived from The Creative Writer.
J. D. Vine Publications is responsible for the dissemination of The Creative Writer and its contents in various ways. We also, as publisher of The Creative Writer, may receive individual requests from scholars, teachers, and librarians to reproduce the piece in various media. In order that we may include your piece in these arrangements and therefore reach a larger audience, you hereby grant J.D. Vine a worldwide nonexclusive license to permit others to reproduce the piece as such, and to quote from the article, in any and all media, and to create abstracts of the piece.
Scope of Licenses: All the above licenses will be worldwide in the English language only, and will endure for all terms of copyright in the piece in all media, including media discovered hereafter.
Warranties: You warrant that you are the sole author of the piece, and generally that you have a complete and unencumbered right to make the grants you make to us (especially with regard to previously published material). You also warrant that the piece does not libel anyone, invade anyone's copyright, patent, or trade secret rights, or otherwise violate applicable law. You agree to indemnify J. D. Publications against any claim or action alleging facts which, if true, constitute a breach of any of the foregoing warranties.
Multiple Authors: If there is more than one author of the piece, the word “you” includes all authors jointly and severally. Your names will appear in The Creative Writer in the order you list. If one of you is to be the corresponding author, he or she should indicate that fact. The corresponding author may make agreement for all authors, if he or she has authority to act as their agent, in which case please indicate so.
In Conclusion: This is the entire agreement between us, and it may be modified only in writing. It will bind and benefit our respective successors in interest, including your heirs. It will terminate if we do not publish your article within two years of the date of agreement.
