In Venice, that beautiful old whore, everything is for sale except the doge's chef. When streetwise Luciano becomes the chef's apprentice, he discovers that powerful men are plotting to unearth an ancient book rumored to contain thorny heresies, love potions, alchemy, and even the secret of immortality. Everyone believes the elusive book holds the thing they want most.
Luciano wants only Francesca—lush as a plum but locked in a convent. His quest takes him from the life of a street thief in the Rialto to the opulence of the doge's palace, and eventually sends him fleeing for his life through the dark calli of renaissance Venice.
Intrigue escalates and schemes thicken like stew while the enigmatic chef uses metaphorical soufflés and mysterious sauces to guide Luciano through a dangerous but delicious maze. Luciano learns there are a few things worth dying for, and the chef knows what they are.

Bones of the Dead by Elle Newmark
Haunted by her involvement in her parents death at the age of ten, Cassandra has never been confident in the love that others felt for her—not her adoptive parents, her friends and certainly not the man she loved with all her heart. So, after giving herself to her high school sweetheart on prom night, she flees from the overpowering fears and all those who supported her.
And then after four years of sleeping with one strange man after another—whose names she couldn't remember or never knew—she decided enough was enough. It was time to return to face those she'd left behind, particularly Brenden Carter.
Brenden should hate Cass for running away from their love and with his daughter, but somehow even after years of telling himself he hated her--and doing a lot of womanizing himself--Cass' smile still managed to get next to him.
Will he be able to forgive her for leaving him when he needed her most?

Martina Newberry’s most recent book, HUNGER, is daring, complex, and, at the same time, accessible. HUNGER speaks to us of personal and planetary appetites--how and if they are satisfied.

Through the oddest of circumstances, Dr. Roxane Brissett, encounters two women who become clients that drastically impact her life. Bernice McCall manages to flee to a shelter after barely escaping a near death experience at the hands of her abusive boyfriend. While Sharice Brown, a young wife whose husband has kidnapped their only child is attacked and beaten by him inside a courtroom. Her role as a psychotherapist is put to a test when Bernice is found dead inside her apartment with an unknown male lying across her slain body.
It would appear that the right motive has opened the wrong door and in some instances family can turn out to be your worst enemy. When your own father beats and rape you, who do you trust? Who would think that opening up a counseling service for battered and abused women would break loose so much turmoil in her life?

My site is devoted to the writer in all of us. It is a starting point, a place for new writers to hopefully find inspiration, helpful links and useful freebies such as writer's software, inspirational quotes from authors and more. Soon there will also be a newbie writers Q and A forum for those who sign on to our forum. It is also a place for readers to find free eBooks, poetry and short stories. I also have a blog based in the U.K. It is:

Port Beach is a backwater burg where the children's playground is a polluted bay and a garbage dump. Most ominous is the town's one source of jobs, the Perfume Factory, an industrial complex that "... spilled out the sickly sweet odors that made Port Beach smell like the bottom of an old woman's handbag," an irony not lost on 17-year-old Sam Nesbitt, who views the Perfume Factory as a mocking reminder of the town's unchanging ugliness, oppression and empty promises. As the summer of his 18th birthday unfolds, and Sam finalizes his plans to escape the town and his violent abusive father, he meets Julie, a pretty, vivacious young woman from the city, who takes an unexpected interest in him, heightened by the lies he tells about himself to cement that interest. Sam, who has survived by suppressing his feelings and emotions, "playing it cool," obsessively pursues her, setting aside his habitual caution, altering his escape plans, and experiencing his first romantic love and sexual experience, pain and joy in tow. The Perfume Factory has been lauded for its strong sense of place, stamp of authenticity and passionate portrayal of working-class American youth.
